Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports - Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes Named Tenth Best Player By NHL Network For 2024-25

For the first time, Quinn Hughes was featured in the top ten for NHL Network's "Top 50 Players Right Now" list. The Vancouver Canucks captain saw a massive jump, moving from 45th last season to tenth this year. The jump comes after Hughes' historic 2023-24 campaign, which saw him capture the franchise's first-ever Norris Trophy.

This year, only one defenceman ranked higher than Hughes, which was Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche. The two are projected to be in the running for this year's Norris Trophy, as well as the Hart Trophy. Last season, both Hughes and Makar were finalists for the Norris, with Makar finishing in third behind Hughes and Roman Josi.

A Peek Into the Life of Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes

Hughes was one of three Vancouver players to be selected to this year's list. The other two were Elias Pettersson, who was ranked 28th and J.T. Miller, who came in at 30th. A surprising omission was Thatcher Demko, who, despite being injured, is still considered one of the top goaltenders in the league.

The Canucks kick off their 2024-25 campaign on October 9 at home versus the Calgary Flames. Last season, Hughes recorded three assists in the home opener when Vancouver defeated the Edmonton Oilers 8-1. Game time for the 2024-25 home opener is scheduled for 7:00 pm PT from Rogers Arena.
