The 2024-25 season could be a historic one for Vancouver Canucks prospect Melvin Fernström. The 2024 third-rounder is currently playing for Örebro HK and is splitting time between the SHL and J20 Nationell. While he is starting to find some traction in the SHL, he is projected to play more games in the J20 Nationell this season, which could lead to Fernström setting a new franchise record.

Through 12 games in the J20 Nationall this season, Fernström has 11 goals and 18 points. That puts him at 42 goals and 82 points in 66 career games with Örebro HK J20. Not only does Fernström have one of the highest points per game in franchise history, but he is slowly closing in on the franchise's all-time goals record.

Based on Fernström's career goal-scoring in the J20 Nationall, it is possible that he will set the franchise record this season. The current record holder is Tim Almgren, who scored 50 goals in 115 games. This means Fernström only needs eight more goals to time Almgren, with a ninth making him the franchise's all-time leader.

Some complexities may prevent Fernström from setting the record. It is unknown when his next game in the J20 Nationall will occur, and also how many more games he will play this season. That being said, he does have four games in his last two J20 Nationall games, which is an indicator that he may only need a few games to break the record.

While Fernström was a third-round pick, this is a prospect who Canucks fans should get excited about. He is an offensively gifted right-winger who is putting together some impressive performances as an 18-year-old in the SHL. If Fernström can continue to develop the way he is, it shouldn't be long before Vancouver signs him to an entry-level contract and try to get him to come to the AHL.
