Tom Willander and Sawyer Mynio have had strong starts to the 2024-25 season.

Just like the Vancouver Canucks, prospects Tom Willander and Sawyer Mynio are having strong starts to the 2024-25 season. Both are at or near the top of defensive scoring for their specific leagues and looked set to meet up later this year at the 2025 World Juniors. Willander and Mynio's early season success should excite Canucks fans as both have the potential to be impact players in the NHL one day.

Starting with Willander, the 2023 first-round pick has five points in five games this season. He was also named the Hockey East Defender of the Week and is currently on a five-game point streak. While it is still early, the Boston University defenceman is well on his way to establishing himself as not only a top defender in the Hockey East conference but the entire NCAA.
A little closer to home, Mynio has been on fire to start the season. The 2023 third-round pick leads the Seattle Thunderbirds with 16 points in 12 games and, as of writing, sits third in the WHL for points among defenceman. A leader on a young Thunderbirds team, Mynio should surpass his career high of 53 points by the end of the season.
As mentioned, the two Canucks prospects could meet at this year's World Juniors. While Canada and Sweden are in different groups, they are scheduled to play in a pre-tournament game on December 21. This year's tournament begins on December 26, with the Gold Medal game being played on January 5 in Ottawa.
