One area of need for the Canucks is puck-moving, right-shot defenceman. That is exactly what Huang can bring to the organization. The 17-year-old set a new career high in the QMJHL this season with 40 points in 64 games, while also winning a Gold Medal with Canada at the 2025 U18s.

Huang's biggest strength in the offensive zone is his playmaking ability. He likes to pinch in from the blue line and is constantly moving with the puck on his stick to open up passing lanes. The next step in his development will be to strengthen his shot so that he can add another layer to his offensive game.

The transition game is another area where Huang thrives. He often elects to carry pucks out of the defensive zone, before hitting teammates in stride, resulting in zone entries. Overall, Huang appears very confident with his puck-handling skills and understands when it is the right time to attempt a high-risk pass.

Huang's skating is another asset that should help him succeed at the pro level. He has decent speed and constantly moves his feet to find open ice and create chances. Huang is also very elusive and can often squeeze by checks along the boards without losing puck possession.

Where Huang's game needs a bit more development is in the defensive zone. Since he wants to join the rush, he sometimes leaves his defensive position, which can result in odd-man rushes the other way. Listed at 6'0", 170lbs, Huang also needs to bulk up so that he can become a more physical player, which will help in board battles.

Overall, Huang is the type of prospect Vancouver should be targeting in the third round. He has attributes that should translate to the pro game, and continued to improve during the season, as he jumped up 13 spots on NHL Central Scouting's final rankings. With the right development path, Huang has the potential to have a long pro career.
