Carson Soucy has eight points in 51 games with the Vancouver Canucks this season.
The latest player from the Vancouver Canucks to be involved in trade rumours is Carson Soucy. According to Elliotte Friedman of "Sportsnet," the Canucks have notified teams the 30-year-old left defenceman is available for trade. This season, Soucy has eight points in 51 games but is on pace to record a negative plus/minus for the first time since he played three games in 2017-18.

The Soucy situation is complicated for multiple reasons. He has struggled this season and, based on morning skate, is projected to be a healthy scratch against the Colorado Avalanche, which would mark the second straight game in the press box. All this being said, Soucy is still an important player in the locker room, which means his departure could mess with the team's overall chemistry.
Starting with the on-ice struggles, Soucy does not look like the player he was last season. He is second on the team in giveaways with 57, while his 41.26% even-strength shots for percentage ranks last among players who have played at least six games. Vancouver has also allowed 41 even-strength goals with Soucy on the ice, while his even-strength xGF% is 43.05%.
Based on Soucy's current play, the Canucks would not be getting full value back in a trade. The entire league is now aware that he is struggling and may try to lowball Vancouver with their trade offers. Ultimately, players like Soucy, who is 6'5" and can play a physical game, are sought after at the NHL level and can bring in decent assets in a trade.
The other issue with Soucy is his contract. The left-shot defenceman is in the second year of a three-year deal but has a no-movement clause. Just like with J.T. Miller, Soucy would need to waive the clause in order to be traded.
This is the other reason why the Canucks should wait on trading Soucy. After this season, his no-move clause changes to a 12-team no-trade list, which would open up more options for Vancouver. There may also be new teams interested in the summer, as Soucy would only have one year left heading into 2025-26.
In the end, if Vancouver is going to move Soucy, they need to ensure that they are getting value back in a trade. Despite his struggles, he is the type of player organizations love and could help fill out another team's blue line. While it looks possible that he will be traded in the future, waiting until the offseason and letting Soucy build up his trade value would be the best move for the organization.
