Golden Knights Prospects Fall 3-0 to Utah in Rookie Faceoff Opener
Vegas' rookies opened the 2026 Rookie Faceoff on a tough note Saturday in San Jose, dropping a 3-0 decision to Utah's prospects at Tech CU Arena and Sharks Ice.
The tournament, running September 12-15, features prospect squads from six Western Conference clubs — the Golden Knights, Mammoth, Ducks, Avalanche, Kings, and Sharks — giving each organization's rising talent a tune-up against outside competition before main training camp gets underway.
Vegas ran into penalty trouble early and couldn't recover. A first-period double-minor on defenseman Max Psenicka for a high stick proved especially costly — not only did it hand Utah a four-minute man advantage, but Psenicka wasn't able to return to the game.
Utah made the most of the opportunity, going a perfect 3-for-3 on the power play. Miko Matikka opened the scoring by crashing the net and cashing in a rebound, and Daniil But doubled the lead moments later on the same power play, working through traffic before beating goaltender Pavel Moysevich. Artem Duda capped the flurry with a long-range wrist shot that made it 3-0.
Moysevich settled in from there, and Vegas held its own at even strength the rest of the way, but the early special-teams damage was too much to overcome.
The Golden Knights' prospects will look to regroup as the Rookie Faceoff continues on Sunday. They square off against the Colorado Avalanche at 2 p.m. MDT.
