The Vegas Golden Knights are keeping a level-headed approach to Game 4 in Dallas.
The Vegas Golden Knights sit on the verge of making to their second Stanley Cup Final. They are up 3-0 in the best-of-seven series against the Dallas Stars and have a chance to close out the series Thursday in Dallas.
“We’re one step closer where we want to be. We want to have our best game of the series tomorrow night,” Vegas captain Mark Stone said. “We know they’ll have that desperation. We need to bring our best foot forward to close out the series.”
Stone and the rest of the team have remained level-headed throughout these playoffs.
That is done on purpose, as the Golden Knights have made a concerted effort to keep calm no matter what has been thrown their way throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
“We know that anything can happen in a playoff series,” Stone said. “It’s about just staying even keeled. You can’t let the highs get to highs. Lows get too low. You can see that throughout a game.”
It was clearly evident in Game 3 when the Stars lost their cool. It started when Jamie Benn was called for a game misconduct for cross-checking Stone while Stone laid on the ice less than two minutes into the game. Max Domi was later called for a game misconduct as well, and fans threw litter on the ice.
The Golden Knights plugged away to a 4-0 victory, and that’s all that mattered in the end.
Despite the commanding lead, the players are not looking ahead to playing the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final. Forward Jonathan Marchessault has admitted the team has looked ahead too much before in these situations, but added this year will be different.
“Maybe they’ve learned through experience. That’s part of it. They’ve been here and done. When it doesn’t work out, you always look back, ‘What could we have done better?’” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “Stay in the moment. We talk about it in the room a lot. It’s worked for us. It’s a veteran group that’s been. You should learn from your past. “
