It’s only fitting that an “Golden Misfit” won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup Playoffs Most Valuable Player.

Jonathan Marchessault took home the honors after scoring 13 goals, tallying 12 assist, and ending the postseason on a 10-game point streak.

He also knew exactly who to thank once he reached the podium to talk about the Vegas Golden Knights 9-3 victory over the Florida Panthers in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

“It was a bumpy ride for sure, definitely a lot of hard work was put in, especially in the past few years, to achieve my goal,” Marchessault said. “My wife was unbelievable, and to be honest, you don’t hear enough about how big they (spouses) are in the career of a professional athlete and I’m so happy to be able to do it. It was a lot of bumps and bruises along the way and it’s just a great feeling right now to see my journey where it brought me and it’s something that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”

Marchessault went scoreless in the first seven games of this postseason, but once he got his first goal, it snowballed. He had a natural hat trick in the Game 6 clincher against the Edmonton Oilers – the highlight of his impressive 10-game point streak and found ways to score the timely goal when the Golden Knights needed it.

He is the first winger to win the award since Alexander Ovechkin won it in 2018 – coincidentally against the Golden Knights.
