The Vegas Golden Knights selected David Edstrom with the No. 32 pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Edstrom is from Gothenburg, Sweden and played with Frolunda Juniors. The centerman is 6-foot-3 and shoots left-handed.
“I’m a hard-working two-way centerman that’s good on both ends of the ice,” Edstrom said. “A reliable player. Good hockey sense.”
He scored 15 goals and had 13 assists in 28 games with Frolunda’s junior squad and 11 games with the senior squad where he scored two goals and two assists.
“He’s a very solid player,” one scout said. “You’re never disappointed when you go see him play. He missed some time around Christmas due to some shoulder problems, but he’s dependable and coachable. He’s a two-way center, nothing flashy, just solid.”
The Hockey News had Edstrom as the No. 59 rated prospect in its NHL Entry Draft preview.
“He seems to adjust well when the tempo is higher,” another scout said. “He drives hard, goes to the net, play the right way. He can adjust from junior skill guy to different center at the pro level. He has impressed. I don’t know if the top-end skill is there to be a high pick, but behind the big names, he’s one that goes in the second or third round.”
Clearly, Vegas liked the 18-year-old enough to take him with the last pick of the first round.
“It’s a good city. I heard good stuff about it,” Edstrom said. “I’m extremely honored and proud to be part of this organization. I’m excited to get stuff going on there.”
The Golden Knights have no picks in the second round, two picks in the third round, none in the fourth and fifth, and one pick in the sixth and seventh round.
