Golden Knights are 3-1 in games after a loss and have outscored opponents 24-10 after losses.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Vegas Golden Knights are looking to take a 3-1 lead in the Stanley Cup Final tonight against the Florida Panthers.
Coming off losses, the Golden Knights are 3-1 – the only loss came in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final against Dallas – and have outscored opponents 24-10 in those games.
“We've been pretty good at bouncing back after losses and responding in the right way,” Vegas forward Jack Eichel said. “Some of that has to do with some of the experience and veteran leadership in the team, but also just the character the guys like that speaks the most about our ability to come back after losing games and have a good performance.”
It’s been a trait of the team has shown throughout the regular and postseason. They’ve only lost back-to-back games a handful of times with the longest streak being a four-game losing skid before the All-Star Break.
It’s a quality that Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy admires about his team.
“It’s a proud group. Especially in the playoffs, you know you want a response. I think the staff has done a good job of it attacking areas where we can improve without completely changing what we do,” Cassidy said. “It's always about, ‘Hey, this is how we got here, and this is how we want to play.’ So maybe it's more reminders against certain types of forechecks or D zone-coverages, etc, and make a few tweaks to special teams. That's pretty normal. We're a good team and want to get back in and win column. Guys know what's at stake. So I think it's as simple as that.”
If the Golden Knights are to take a step closer to their goal, they must bring forth another stellar performance after a loss. They know the Panthers will come out with a response, so it will be up to them to match that intensity.
“You know, and we're gonna need one tonight,” Eichel said. “We did a good job in Game 3. Few bounces go the other way, and it could have been a different story. That's the that's the beauty of the game.”
