The Capitals netminder is trying to approach it as "just another game."
The last time Logan Thompson was in Las Vegas, he found himself at the Sphere for an autograph signing, taking in tough news that he'd been traded to the Washington Capitals from the Vegas Golden Knights.
It was a bit of a roller coaster for the 27-year-old, but fast forward to now, and he has no hard feelings for his former team. Still, there's no denying that he's motivated as he gets the start for the Capitals at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday.
"I'm excited to go back," Thompson told The Hockey News with a smile.
Back on Oct. 15, Thompson got the chance to play against Vegas and show them that they were wrong to trade him. He did just that, stopping 24 of 26 shots en route to a 4-2 victory, his first win with his new team.
Washington, coming off a convincing 5-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche to begin its road trip out west, will be looking for more of the same from Thompson, who is 7-0-1 this season, though they know that this game holds a lot of meaning for him.
Still, Thompson's keeping his composure.
"I've already played them once this year, so I think it's just another game," he said with a shrug.
Just another game? Sure, but Thompson would be lying if he said it wasn't special to him at all.
"It's going to be a little different going in that rink as not a Golden Knight, but I'm excited," he qualified. "It's going be a fun atmosphere. I know that rink and those fans always bring it, so I'm excited for the game and we'll see what happens."
