Despite the 4-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, the Washington Capitals didn't feel like Game 3 was a failure by any means.

In fact, they feel it's something to build on, and that if you look past the score, there are a lot of positives to take away going forward in the second-round series.

"I think we played a pretty good game, pretty solid game. I thought we had some decent looks," defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk said. "They were opportunistic and made some nice plays and played well in the second half of the game, btu I don't think a lot has to change."

Washington did get off to its best start yet on Saturday, dominating the first period while putting the Hurricanes back on their heels a bit. Then, in the final 40 minutes of play, some miscues across the lineup led to Carolina tilting the ice and capitalizing on its chances.

That said, the Capitals know that they'll need a consistent 60-minute effort in Game 4 if they want to even the series back up, but they aren't panicking going forward.

"We don't feel worried, we don't feel out of it," Jakob Chychrun said.

Here's more from the players postgame.

    Nic Dowd

On what went wrong in Game 3: "Obviously, there's going to be ebbs and flows in all games, right. There's going to be momentum changes, penalties, good calls, bad calls, wahtever. It's a long series... that's just how these series go. You guys have watched a lot of hockey in the last couple weeks, that's just how it works. I thought we played good hockey."

On how to sustain pressure in Game 4: "I mean, you look to do the same thing, right? It's puck battles all over the ice make a huge difference, 1-on-1s. If we can win that puck... makes a big difference, right?"

On the goal off his lost face-off and not losing confidence. "That sucks, but I mean, it's playoffs, it's going to happen, things are going to happen. I'm not going to think about it after I answer these questions with you guys... you got to stick with it. Long series. You got to be consistent, keep pushing."

    Jakob Chychrun

On the mentality after getting shut out: "We got a lot of confidence in this room. We had a really good start, and I think we can put together a full 60 here in this barn and make it really hard. There were times where we made them uncomfortable, and if we find the back of the net there, I think we open the floodgates... once we get one here, we're going to be rolling."

On the group's attitude: "I have all the confidence in the world for next game. I have no doubt about this group... we don't feel worried, we don't feel out of it."

    Trevor van Riemsdyk

On the mentality going into Game 4 down 2-1 in the series: "I don't think our confidence is wavering at all. They're a great team and they've had success before. We didn't think thiss was going to be easy by any stretch, and it's proven not to be.
