Thanks to a valiant effort in Montreal Washington Capitals are one win away from the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Andrew Mangiapane called game in a dominant third, Brandon Duhaime scored twice and Washington excelled late to secure a 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 4.

Here are all the takeaways as D.C. leads the series 3-1.

First Line Steps Up Again, Mangiapane Calls Game As Capitals Dominate At 5-on-5

The Capitals got another strong showing from the top line, as Dylan Strome opened the scoring for D.C. with his second of the postseason. Anthony Beauvillier got the assist, his fourth of the playoffs.

Strome wasn’t done there.  Late in the third with the game tied, he found Andrew Mangiapane open, and Mangiapane stepped up, calling his own number to give D.C. the game-winner.

The top line has combined for 17 points in four playoff games, with Strome’s seven points leading D.C.

Physicality Pays Off, Duhaime Cashes In & Plays Hero In Third

Trailing 2-1 in the third, Tom Wilson took matters into his own hands, leveling Alexandre Carrier to free up the puck.

It paved the way for Brandon Duhaime, who barreled into the offensive zone and scored to even the score and tilt the ice.

He wasn’t done there, firing home an empty netter to seal the deal. Wilson would also add an ENG to make it 5-2.

Thompson Makes Triumphant Return, Teams Need

The Capitals got a good showing in net, too, as Logan Thompson made a triumphant return to the net after leaving last game with injury.

Thompson and D.C. we’re able to play well at 5-on-5, paving the way for the win.

The Capitals do need to improve in the special teams department; the power play unable to convert, and the penalty kill surrendered another goal, which titled the ice.
