The Capitals want to keep the good times rolling in Ottawa. Here's everything to know before puck drop.
As the Washington Capitals head on the road for the first time this season, they're changing things up in a big way against the Ottawa Senators.
Washington (1-1-0) wants to keep the good times rolling after a big 3-2 shootout win over the Calgary Flames on Monday, but the club admittedly wants to get more of a spark going on offense after being heavily outshot in the first two games of the 2022-23 campaign.
So, head coach Spencer Carbery went back to the drawing board on Tuesday, shaking up the lines for the upcoming showdown across the border.
Here's everything to know before puck drop.
Washington Capitals Lines
The Capitals made some big changes up front, separating the Alex Ovechkin-Nicklas Backstrom-T.J. Oshie trio and moving Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson up to work with the captain, who failed to register a shot on goal on Monday.
Meanwhile, Matthew Phillips, who had his first NHL goal and assist on Monday and sparked his team to victory against his former club, will remain in the mix.
Clay Stevenson remains up in D.C. and is travelling with the team to back up Darcy Kuemper. Charlie Lindgren remains day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
John Carlson and Nic Dowd took maintenance days on Monday and missed practice but made the road trip. There were still injury questions going into game time, but both are in.
Here are the line combinations:
Alex Ovechkin-Dylan Strome-Tom Wilson
Connor McMichael-Evgeny Kuznetsov-T.J. Oshie
Sonny Milano-Nicklas Backstrom-Matthew Phillips
Beck Malenstyn-Nic Dowd-Aliaksei Protas
Rasmus Sandin-Alex Alexeyev
Martin Fehervary-Trevor van Riemsdyk
Lucas Johansen-Nick Jensen
Darcy Kuemper
Clay Stevenson
Washington Capitals Players To Watch
Keep an eye on Phillips, who had a multi-point effort on Monday and continues to impress Washington while working well with Sonny Milano, who's also put himself on the radar to open the season. Connor McMichael also had his first goal of the campaign on Monday and continues to look more confident while serving as one of the team's top threats to open things up.
Ovechkin is still seeking goal No. 1, and look for him to try and step things up with new linemates.
Nicklas Backstrom is also playing in career game No. 1,100 on Wednesday, so watch for him, too.
Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at Canadian Tire Center.
