"I absolutely love it here," the Capitals netminder said following his third career shutout and first with D.C.
WASHINGTON – "Charlie! Charlie! Charlie!" fans chanted at Capital One Arena on Tuesday as Charlie Lindgren got back up from his butterfly following one of several clutch saves for the Washington Capitals against the Vegas Golden Knights. And for Lindgren, it was a bit of an emotional moment, and one that ultimately made the 3-0 shutout victory that followed even sweeter.
Lindgren put on a show against the defending Stanley Cup champions, shutting down numerous breakaways and stopping 35 shots en route to the win. It marked his first shutout with Washington and the third of his career. Through three games this season, he is 3-1-0 with a .947 save percentage.
"I mean, it’s been a while since my last one. I remember it was against Philly up in Montreal. I lost in a shootout 1-0. Must’ve been probably four years ago, three years ago, so it’s been a long time coming," Lindgren said with a smile. "But tonight, just right from the puck drop felt in the zone. Again, I think I got some really good momentum going right now... big two points tonight.
“[The chants were] cool. I mean, again, I’ve been here for a year and a half now and I can’t say enough good things about the city, the fans, the people here," he added. "Just absolutely love it here. To hear them chanting my name, that was pretty cool.”
Here's more of what he, John Carlson and Dylan Strome all had to say postgame, live from the locker room in D.C.
