The Washington Capitals had a rare practice day on Monday in Seattle as they get near the end of their longest road trip of the season, and they got some positive news on the Pierre-Luc Dubois front while the team deals with some other ailing names.

Dubois upgraded to a regular jersey and took part in contact for the first time with the group since he underwent adduction surgery in early November. It marks a major step forward for the 27-year-old, who was hurt on Oct. 31.

"He just continues to progress. Today was a good step," coach Spencer Carbery told reporters after practice in Seattle. "He was kind of partaking in some of the drills that we did, little bit of contact there. Another good day for him, and he'll just continue on with his progression.

Meanwhile, Carbery added that Rasmus Sandin, Declan Chisholm, Matt Roy  and Tom Wilson, are "a little bit banged up," and that he will check in with athletic trainer Jason Serbus for updates and to see how they are before Tuesday's tilt with the Kraken.

Sandin is dealing with a lower-body injury suffered early against the Edmonton Oilers following a heavy hit into the boards and shot block in the final seconds of the first period. Meanwhile, Wilson recently returned from a lower-body injury, resulting from a collision with Connor Murphy back on Jan. 3, that held him out for eight games.

Washington did not make any call-ups on Monday, and a snowstorm that impacted the East Coast heavily this week could make travel across the country difficult. However, the Capitals still have time to make any necessary moves to fill voids in the lineup.
