ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals lineup for their first game out of the Olympic break is a bit up in the air.
Per coach Spencer Carbery, Tom Wilson, who returned from Milan Cortina earlier in the week, is feeling "under the weather." Wilson did not take part in the team's optional morning skate on Wednesday and will not play.
Hendrix Lapierre will be in the lineup in his place. Meanwhile, Connor McMichael has been activated from the injured reserve and will dress, while Sonny Milano has been placed on waivers.
On defense, John Carlson will remain out of the mix as he deals with a day-to-day, lower-body injury.
Meanwhile, fellow Team Canada teammate, goaltender Logan Thompson, will get back into the mix and start against the Flyers. Thompson, celebrating his 29th birthday, said that he's feeling good and ready to go after the Olympics, where he played one game while mainly serving as the No. 2 to Jordan Binnington.
Asked if he'll have to spend any extra time getting back into game shape, Thompson offered a smile and simple response.
"I was skating with 25 of the best players in the world (in Italy), so I'm hoping I'll be okay," he quipped.
Carbery agreed, saying that there's "zero concern" whether Thompson will be ready to jump right back into the swing of things.
Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at Capital One Arena.
