To make matters worse in an already tough go-of-it in Game 3, the Washington Capitals lost a key player to injury, as starting goaltender Logan Thompson left the game following a collsion with Dylan Strome.

Thompson was in his crease when Strome, backchecking, collided with the netminder as Juraj Slafkovsky scored to make it 5-3.

The 28-year-old netminder went down in visible pain and stayed down before being attended to by athletic trainer Jason Serbus. Thompson was then helped off the ice, barely putting any weight on his left leg and limping down the tunnel.

It's unclear what the injury is at this time or how serious it is. He was also hurting earlier in the game after being hit up high in the second period.

Charlie Lindgren took over for Thompson for the remainder of the game. Coach Spencer Carbery had no update on Thompson after the game.

Thompson returned for the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after missing the last couple of weeks of the season with an upper-body injury and is a big reason D.C. holds a series lead.

The Capitals goalie, who was acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights in the offseason, finished the regular season with a .910 save percentage and has a .917 save percentage through the first three games of this series.
