The Washington Capitals are dealing with some questions and more potential lineup changes as they prepare to take on the Carolina Hurricanes.
Head coach Spencer Carbery said the entire lineup for Tuesday's tilt with the Carolina Hurricanes will be a "game-time" decision.
"Lineup-wise, there's just too many things going on," Carbery said after morning skate. "It'll be game-time for our lineup for our back end and up front."
Logan Thompson will start for Washington, marking his fourth consecutive game in net. Charlie Lindgren is expected to start on Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Capitals are already missing some key names as they visit the Hurricanes, with Pierre-Luc Dubois remaining out due to illness and Matt Roy set to miss his fourth straight game with a day-to-day, lower-body injury.
Alex Tuch, who took a maintenance day on Monday, did skate on Tuesday but is a game-time decision as well, per Carbery. If he can't play, Ivan Miroshnichenko will draw in up front.
As Roy remains out, Washington continues to evaluate its situation on the blue line. Dylan McIlrath has been drawing in, but for more insurance, the team also recalled Justin Holl on Monday, and he could potentially slot into the mix for one of these two back-to-back games.
"So fresh coming off training camp, he's basically seen and gone through every single meeting, played exhibition games with us, played a few games in Hershey, but it's pretty seamless (if he draws in)," Carbery added.
Tuesday's game is also a significant one for captain Alex Ovechkin, as it marks the first stop on his farewell tour. He's expected to play his final game of his NHL career at Lenovo Center, where he was drafted first overall in 2004, on Tuesday.
"I have such great memories here... It's a special, special place for me," Ovechkin told reporters on Tuesday.
While he's not sure what to expect, he does know that players and fans will want to pay tribute as he says goodbye to the NHL with one last season, and he's looking forward to seeing what's in store.
"Last year we did it with (Anze) Kopitar, two years ago it was (Marc-Andre) Fleury. We have battles, we have some rivalries, but respect for each other, it's very important thing," Ovechkin said. "I don't know how emotional I'm gonna be, but we'll see."
Puck drop is at 6:45 p.m. in Raleigh.
