ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals are striking a careful balance on Friday, preparing for Friday's game against the Detroit Red Wings while also monitoring the upcoming NHL Trade Deadline.
Washington made its first move of the day shortly after the team's morning skate, acquiring Anthony Beauvillier from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a second-round pick.
Before acquiring Beauvillier, the Capitals had just 12 healthy forwards, as Sonny Milano appears to have suffered a setback.
Coach Spencer Carbery offered a small update on the 28-year-old, saying they'd have more news coming out "pretty soon" regarding where things stand with him.
"Him not skating has sort of changed what the progresssion would be," Carbery said.
Milano has not played since suffering an upper-body injury on Nov. 6 against the Nashville Predators.
It's unclear when Beauvillier will arrive, though the team appears set to have the same lineup as usual for Friday's tilt with the Red Wings. More moves could come before the 3 p.m. deadline, though.
Logan Thompson will get the start between the pipes for D.C.
