ARLINGTON, V.A. — As the Washington Capitals continue to filter into town for informal skates at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, Logan Thompson took the opportunity to break in some new gear.
Thompson debuted a new pad setup for the 2026-27 campaign, which includes another all-red kit for home games featuring stars on the pads.

The 28-year-old netminder had sported the look on his pads when he first arrived in D.C., but went away from the color scheme later in the 2024-25 season.
Thompson was busy on Friday, putting in work alongside teammates Pierre-Luc Dubois, Matt Roy, Lynden Lakovic and Martin Fehervary. Alex Tuch, who's been in town since July, did not participate on Friday. Patrick Giles, a Chevy Chase, Maryland native under contract with the San Jose Sharks, was also on the ice.
Players started the session off working on drills, including stickhandling, shooting and 1-on-1 work. After that, they moved the nets to the middle of the ice for a small-area scrimmage to close out the session.
Meanwhile, Dubois, who broke his hand at the end of last season, is healthy and at appears to be at full strength going into camp, showing off his speed, hands and playmaking.
Lakovic, who is working his way back to full strength after missing the majority of last season following a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery, was a full participant, though there's no intense contact at informal skates and I there’s no official word regarding whether he’s been cleared for contact.
Players are expected to continue showing up to the informal skates as the season nears, with training camp beginning in mid-to-late September.
