The 6-foot-5 defenseman makes life miserable for his opponents.

The Washington Capitals continue to pick up assets in the 2026 NHL Draft, and used their No. 144 pick to select defenseman Brian McFadden in the fifth round.

McFadden addresses a key area for the Capitals, who want more size and depth on the right side of the defense corps.

The 6-foot-5 blueliner plays a shutdown game and doesn't shy away from physicality, making him a nightmare to go up against. He's also a hard worker and uses his reach to his advantage, and he's also able to keep his opponents to the outside — or shut them down altogether.

McFadden hails from the Thayer Academy, where he had two goals and 15 assists for 17 points in 29 games this past season. He's committed to Northeastern.
