The forward had 13 goals and 38 points with Columbus last season.

The Washington Capitals have added another important depth piece, signing forward Boone Jenner to a four-year contract.

Jenner's deal pays $23 million and carries an AAV of $5.75 million.

Jenner is a versatile forward who can play either the center or wing, and fills an important need up front for the Capitals with the team wanting to have another scoring option on the left side after loading up on the right with Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou.

In 67 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, Jenner had 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points. He had four 20-goal seasons over his 13 years in Columbus, with three of those being over the last five seasons, and also served as captain over that span.

The 33-year-old led the Blue Jackets this past year in face-off win percentage (52.6) and ranked second in hits (147), while also leading all forwards in blocked shots (66). He is one of just six NHLers with at least 200 goals and 1,800 hits, joining new teammates Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson, as well as Brady Tkachuk, Vincent Trocheck and Brayden Schenn.

Jenner can not only play multiple roles up front, but is also a proven penalty killer and two-way player. Off the ice, he's a veteran leader and solid locker room presence.

Washington also reportedly signed Jonny Brodzinski to a one-year contract earlier in the day as another depth option.

With Jenner now under contract, the Capitals have $3.475 million remaining in projected cap space, not including Rasmus Sandin, who can go on long-term injured reserve.
