ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals have put pen to paper for their first-round pick from the 2025 NHL Draft, signing Lynden Lakovic to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Lakovic’s contract will carry an average annual value of $975,000 at the NHL level and $85,000 at the AHL level.
Lakovic went 27th overall to Washington following an impressive year with the Moose Jaw Warriors, where he put up 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points.
"I'm a big two-way dual threat scorer who plays with a lot of pace and good hockey IQ I think. I'm a really good scorer when I get the opportunity," Lakovic said of his game. "I'm really good at creating space for myself and I think when I'm at my best that's what I'm doing."
The 6-foot-4 winger has sneaky good playmaking ability and makes good plays in tight, and he has a wicked shot that makes him a major scoring threat. He wants to continue to build his game and round it out, while also adding some more grit.
Ultimately, though, he's just looking forward to continuing to grow as a player and person.
"I learned how to buy into a role and at the end of the day, that's what you're going to need to do to win a championship," Lakovic said. "If you're told to score goals, if you're told to be on the forecheck and play physically, you're gonna do that. if you get your whole team buying into their role, it's gonna click and you kind of have a family. I think that's'what i can carry on ito the next level."
