ARLINGTON, V.A. — Before joining the Washington Capitals, Anthony Beauvillier had seen clips of the team on social media, taken aback a bit by the strange sounds and rituals that take place in the tunnel pregame.
Walking into it was a whole other experience, as he heard Brandon Duhaime barking and Alex Ovechkin asking John Carlson about his chicken parm while insisting, "Babe, it's not a ten; it's a tin."
"I've been part of some pretty wild superstitions, but this is a pretty good tunnel to walk into and get fired up for games, for sure," Beauvillier laughed. "I was kind of wondering like, 'What are they saying? What are they doing?' Now I get the real feel of it, it's pretty cool."
Over the last 10 days since being acquired at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, the 27-year-old has been fully embraced by the Capitals — and that includes all of the quirks and perks along the way.
"There's just a lot going on," Beauvillier smiled, noting that the biggest surprise has been "how loud" the team is.
Beauvillier has been part of numerous teams over the last handful of seasons, as he's found himself dealt a total of five times. Already, though, he calls Washington "one of the tightest" locker rooms he's been a part of, and said the culture has been great so far.
"It's such a fun group to be a part of, and having a lot of fun, obviously winning makes it a lot more fun. Being here, trying to keep pace with these guys, they've done such a good job of having success this year, and it's so fun to be part of a group like that," Beauvillier said.
"You can feel it. Obviously, everyone kind of hangs out together and everyone talks to each other and walks beside each other. It's special; this group's got something special, and it's a very tight group and we're having a lot of fun. That's the key. Easy group to come into and get adjusted pretty quickly."
