The Washington Capitals made quite the splash with their blockbuster offseason, as they revamped their roster and added big names like Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou to the mix.

Beyond those signings, they also added some key depth, and one of the more interesting names to watch entering the 2026-27 campaign is no other than Josh Dunne.

Dunne signed a one-year, $850,000 contract to join the Capitals on the opening day of free agency, and brings a lot to the table that can benefit the organization.

The 27-year-old center made significant strides in his career last year, getting 34 games up with the Buffalo Sabres and even getting a couple of playoff games in their run to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He had a goal and three assists, along with 38 penalty minutes while serving a a key depth forward to have in the system.

Dunne is a versatile, hard-working forward who can play multiple roles, win face-offs and be deployed in different situations. The 6-foot-4 center isn't afraid to throw his weight around and can help push the play up ice, and he takes solid care of the puck, too.

Ultimately, he'll be an interesting name to watch if he can make noise at training camp, where there will be heavy competition among the forwards to keep a spot in the lineup.

By adding Dunne, Washington not only added another big-bodied forward to the mix, but also has another reliable depth piece and call-up option down the middle.

It will serve the team well if he can make the group out of camp, but he can also play a key role down in the AHL with the Hershey Bears.
