Dylan Strome will get to see his younger brother remain in the Washington Capitals organization, as Matt Strome is officially back with the AHL-affiliate Hershey Bears.
The Bears re-signed Strome, who has been an unrestricted free agent, to a one-year contract on Tuesday. It will be his fifth season with the team.
Strome is an integral part of Hershey's Calder Cup lore, as he scored the Cup-clinching goal in overtime of Game 6 of the 2024 Calder Cup Finals. He also helped the team to another Calder Cup a year prior, along with a regular-season championship and two Atlantic Division titles over the course of his tenure.
In 55 games last season with the Bears, Strome had eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points, and the team was 14-4-1-0 when he recorded a point.
Over the last five seasons, Strome has been an integral part of Hershey's forward group. Not only is he a leader on and off the ice, but he is first over the boards on the penalty kill and drives strong two-way play on the bottom six.
Strome will get to watch his older brother also enter his fifth year with the Capitals, where he's been able to thrive as a top-line center and leader while also putting up top-6 numbers.
Both Strome brothers are expected to be at Washington's training camp in September, and as was the case last season, could play together when D.C. plays a preseason game in Hershey.
The Bears open their season on Oct. 3 at home against Charlotte Checkers.
