Here's what to know ahead of Saturday's showdown between the Capitals and Penguins.
The 100th showdown between Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby will have to wait.
Ahead of Saturday's showdown against the Washington Capitals, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that multiple players would be out of the lineup due to day-to-day injuries, including Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Top defensemen Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson will also sit out.
The Penguins already clinched a playoff spot, so they have the flexibility to sit multiple players for rest ahead of the postseason.
Ovechkin and the Capitals sit three points out of third in the Metropolitan Division and are trying to make a final push for a playoff spot.
All of Washington's regulars are expected to dress, though Charlie Lindgren remains out and day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
The Capitals are then set to return home to face Pittsburgh in their home finale on Sunday, another must-win game for D.C. It's unclear if Crosby, Malkin or any of the other players unavailable on Saturday will travel.
Here are the projected combinations for Washington:
Alex Ovechkin-Dylan Strome-Anthony Beauvillier
Aliaksei Protas-Ilya Protas-Tom Wilson
Connor McMichael-Pierre-Luc Dubois-Ryan Leonard
Brandon Duhaime-Justin Sourdif-Ivan Miroshnichenko
Martin Fehervary-Rasmus Sandin
Jakob Chychrun-Trevor van Riemsdyk
Cole Hutson-Matt Roy
Logan Thompson is expected to get the start, marking his 100th nod between the pipes for D.C. Mitch Gibson will back up.
