The Capitals are reportedly signing Jonny Brodzinski to a one-year deal.

The Washington Capitals seem to have checked off one of their boxes to open free agency, as they've reportedly signed depth forward Jonny Brodzinski.

Per The Athletic's Peter Baugh, Washington signed Brodzinski to a one-year, one-way contract that pays $850,000.

Brodzinski, 33, is a solid, two-way forward who takes good care of the puck and is versatile, able to play center or wing. He spent years between the AHL and NHL, but finally made the full-time jump to the NHL two years ago with the New York Rangers.

In 55 games with the Rangers this past season, Brodzinski had six goals and 10 assists for 16 points, along with 12 penalty minutes. He also won 53 percent of his face-offs.

The Capitals added to their offense prior to the start of free agency, acquiring forwards Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch to bolster the top-6. Now, Brodzinski gives the team some much-needed depth down the lineup following the departure of Brandon Duhaime, and it also gives the Hershey Bears a key asset if he doesn't stay up with the big club.
