The Capitals captain collided with Jordan Staal near the end of the game on Friday.

ARLINGTON, V.A. — Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was not present for practice on Saturday, taking a maintenance day after getting banged up a bit in the team's 6-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.

Ovechkin was involved in a collision with Jordan Staal in the third period and appeared to hurt the back of his leg. He went down in visible pain and was slow getting back to the bench, and was visibly hurting as Jason Serbus attended to him. He finished the game, but with the maintenance day, it's possible he's still hurting.

The Capitals captain is riding a four-game point streak and has recently started to find his scoring touch again. He has 25 points in 37 games this season and is still on pace for a 55-point campaign.

Washington faces the Los Angeles Kings in the third game of a five-game homestand on Sunday afternoon.
