The Bruins blueliner has to pay $5,000 after spearing the Capitals forward on Saturday.

The Washington Capitals saw Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Grzelcyk disciplined for his actions on Saturday against Max Pacioretty, as he received a fine for spearing the 35-year-old forward.

Grzelcyk was fined $5,000, the maximum amount under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for his play on Pacioretty in the first period.

Pacioretty had hit Grzelcyk earlier in the play, and when the two were alone in front of the net, the Bruins blueliner delivered a spear to the groin area. It led to a five-minute penalty and game misconduct for Grzelcyk, while Pacioretty would leave the ice but return for the second period.

Washington scored on the ensuing power play, as Pacioretty delivered a pass to T.J. Oshie in front to make it 1-0. The Capitals won 3-0.
