The 29-year-old netminder was on the ice to start the Capitals optional morning skate but left early. Darcy Kuemper is expected to start Monday vs. the Flames.

The Washington Capitals are awaiting word on goaltender Charlie Lindgren, who left Monday's optional morning skate early.

Per Monumental Sports Network's Tarik El-Bashir, Lindgren was on for the start of the skate but left shortly after. Darcy Kuemper is expected to make his first start of the season on Monday against the Calgary Flames after missing the opener due to the birth of his first child.

It's unclear what the issue was for Lindgren. However, if he's not good to go on Monday, Washington would have to make an emergency recall.

That would mean that the Capitals wouldn't have to move anyone down and could recall a goaltender on an emergency basis.

The team had a non-emergency recall on Friday with Kuemper out. Aliaksei Protas and Connor McMichael are the only waiver-exempt players on the roster, meaning that Protas had to go down for Clay Stevenson to come up.
