The Capitals will say goodbye to two of their assistant coaches as Blaine Forsythe and Kevin McCarthy agreed to part ways with the team just days after Peter Laviolette's departure.

ARLINGTON, V.A. -- With Peter Laviolette no longer at the helm, the Washington Capitals have made more coaching changes as assistant coaches Kevin McCarthy and Blaine Forsythe have parted ways with the team.

General manager Brian MacLellan announced the news on Monday.

"We want to sincerely thank Kevin and Blaine for their efforts and contributions to the Capitals during their respective tenures and wish them all the best moving forward," MacLellan said. "Blaine has been a dedicated member of our organization for 17 seasons and was instrumental in helping the franchise capture its first Stanley Cup in 2018."

Forsythe had been an assistant coach since 2009-10. He previously worked with the team as a video coach and amateur scout.

McCarthy spent three years as an assistant in D.C. and has worked alongside Laviolette over the last 17 years. He and Laviolette first started working together when Laviolette took over in Carolina in 2003-04. Then, when the NHL returned from the lockout in 2005-06, Laviolette and McCarthy coached the Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup. They've been together since, including stops in Philadelphia and Nashville before Washington.

Assistant coach Scott Allen, goaltending coach Scott Murray, assistant coach and video coach Brett Leonhardt and video coordinator Emily Engel-Natzke will return to the coaching staff next season.
