The Washington Capitals goaltending tandem has a new look, as Darcy Kuemper and Charlie Lindgren both unveiled their new masks on Wednesday at the team's in-house media day.
Both feature similar elements from last season, but with an entirely new paint job. Kuemper has also been wearing new pads after donating his ones from last season to Second String Leather Company, which turned them into a wallet.
Kuemper's mask is red, while and blue and still has Reverse Retro elements, featuring the team's "Screamin' Eagle" on the top and his No. 35 on the chin in the team's vintage font. He also has the Weagle on both sides with stars incorporated into the design; he sported the team's wordmark logo there last season.
On the back, he has the breast cancer ribbon and his signature cross with the words "For Those I Love."
As for Lindgren, he's keeping his red, white and blue color scheme and his usual "iceberg" design on his mask that matches his pads, but this time, the Weagle is more prominently featured on both sides of the mask and the top. The chin of his mask sports his nickname, "Lindy."
His masks over the years have featured the same verse from author Og Mandino, who wrote the book, "The Greatest Salesman In The World."
"I will persist until I succeed. I was not delivered into this world into defeat, nor does failure course my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion, and I refuse to talk, walk and to sleep with the sheep. I will persist until I succeed."
