The Capitals can clinch a playoff spot with a win in Philadelphia.

The Washington Capitals control their own destiny in another Game 7-esque showdown on Tuesday, as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers in a game they have to win if they want to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

They'll potentially be without a key forward, though, as Beck Malenstyn is a game-time decision that will be reevaluated closer to game time.

Malenstyn suffered an upper-body injury after being hit late by Trent Frederic in Monday's 2-0 win over the Boston Bruins.

If Malenstyn isn't good to go, then the Capitals will dress either Ivan Miroshnichenko or Mike Sgarbossa.

Beyond that, the lineup will stay the same as it was on Monday, down to the starting goaltender. Charlie Lindgren will get the call once again just 24 hours after shutting out the Boston Bruins.

For head coach Spencer Carbery, it was the necessary decision with Washington needing two points in the last game to clinch.

"I would just say this: We came to the same conclusion that we have over the last four, five games when our season's been sort of on the brink, is Chucky has been arguably our most valuable player," Carbery said. "He's the reason we're in the spot we are or a large reason why we're in this spot. So for us and the way he's played, he's earned this opportunity to play in the last game of the season where our chips are in the middle of the table."

If Washington falls in regulation, it will be eliminated from playoff contention altogether, but it will stay alive with an overtime or shootout loss as long as the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins lose.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Center.
