
The Washington Capitals haven't fared too well this season when it comes to goals being taken off the board.
In fact, eight in total have been waved off by the referee, with seven of those coming at the hands of coach's challenges and challenges initiated by the situation room in Toronto itself. Three of those goals belonged to Ovechkin.
Looking at 13 different instances of challenges, referees' decisions and video reviews, Washington has won just two challenges all season long while losing eight goals in total.

Who challenged: The situation room
What happened: Alex Ovechkin scored a potential game-winning goal with 59.5 seconds to go in regulation, with Nic Dowd heavily screening Yaroslav Askarov in front. The situation room in Toronto initiated a review due to goaltender interference, and the referees overturned the goal after citing that Dowd's incidental contact impaired Askarov's ability to move in his crease and stop the shot.
Toronto can initiate a review of any goal in the final minute of regulation or at any point in overtime.
Ruling: No goal for Washington.
Who challenged: Tampa Bay
What happened: Nick Jensen scored a go-ahead goal in the second period, but the Lightning challenged for offside. It was determined that Joel Edmundson had an offside zone entry on the shift prior to the goal.
Ruling: No goal for Washington.
Who challenged: Situation room
What happened: Prior to Dylan Strome's overtime winner, Tom Wilson made contact with the puck up high. It was determined that the puck was not played with a high stick prior to Strome's goal.
Ruling: Good goal for Washington.
Who challenged: Washington
What happened: Anze Kopitar scored the game-tying goal late in regulation for the Kings. However, the Capitals challenged for offside, and it was determined the play was offside prior to the goal.

There were two unfortunate calls for Washington in this game.

What happened: Alex Ovechkin scored off the face-off on the power play, but his goal was waved off due to the referees declaring a misdraw and blowing the whistle prior to the goal off Kuznetsov's face-off win.

What happened: There was a video review to see if Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored with a high stick. It was determined that his blade was below the crossbar when he made contact with the puck.

What happened: During a scramble for a loose puck in the crease, Mathieu Olivier made contact with Charlie Lindgren, pushing him down in his crease before Ivan Provorov scored on a virtually empty net. The Capitals challenged for goaltender interference, but it was determined there was none on the play.

Who challenged: Florida
What happened: Sonny Milano scored for the Capitals, but the Panthers challenged for offside. After review, it was determined that Wilson was offside prior to Milano's goal.

What happened: T.J. Oshie scored to get the Capitals on the board, but the Islanders challenged for goaltender interference. It was determined that Oshie did impair Semyon Varlamov's ability to move in his crease and make a save.
