Lindgren and Fehervary were hurt in the opening minutes of the Capitals' loss to the Islanders.

The Washington Capitals suffered an ugly 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Friday, and things didn't get better postgame as the team received rough news on the injury front regarding Charlie Lindgren and Martin Fehervary.

Head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters on Long Island that both Lindgren and Fehervary will be out "for the foreseeable future" after both suffered upper-body injuries in the opening minutes of Friday's game against the Islanders. It remains unclear what the exact nature of the injuries is or how severe they are.

Lindgren was hurt on a high shot from Brock Nelson that appeared to shake him up. He'd made three saves total and stayed in for a few minutes following the play, but ultimately elected to leave the game. Darcy Kuemper took over for him, stopping 27 of 32 shots in the defeat.

Fehervary was injured at the same time that Lindgren left the game, as he got tangled up and tripped while battling for the puck with Anders Lee. The Slovak blueliner went hard into the boards and was attended to by Jason Serbus before leaving the game.

It's tough news for D.C. on both fronts, as both have contributed significantly to the team's success this season.

Lindgren has stepped up to become something of the bonafide starter for the Capitals. He has a .928 save percentage and 2.27 GAA through 15 games this season and is among the league leaders in saves above expected.

Meanwhile, Fehervary has helped bring stability to the blue line with his shutdown style of play. He's worked well on the top pairing with John Carlson over the last few seasons.

With both on the shelf, expect Hunter Shepard to be recalled and start against the Nashville Predators on Saturday. Ethan Bear is likely to make his season debut as he took warmups on Friday, but Alex Alexeyev is also on hand to help fill the void. Trevor van Riemsdyk can also play on the left side to help fill Fehervary's void.
