ARLINGTON, V.A. — Washington Capitals prospect Ludwig Persson will continue his development overseas in 2023-24.
Washington loaned the 19-year-old to the Finnish Mestis League's IPK. Mestis is the second-highest level of hockey in Finland. Persson will be eligible to return to North America when Mestis' 2023-24 season comes to a close.
This will be Persson's first time playing in one of the Finnish leagues. He played in Sweden last season, getting one game up with the SHL's Frolunda HC but playing primarily with BIK Karlskoga of the HockeyAllsvenskan, the second-highest tier of hockey in Sweden. Through 45 games last year, he had four goals and 11 assists.
Persson was taken in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft (No. 85). He is known for his outstanding hockey sense and positioning, and has impressed with his two-way play and playmaking ability. Washington signed him to an entry-level deal last July.
