The Washington Capitals are running with five defensemen against the Montreal Canadiens, as Martin Fehervary has left the game with an apparent lower-body injury. He will not return, per the team.

Early in the first period, Fehervary was skating behind the net when he appeared to catch an edge. His left leg appeared to buckle under him, and he was slow to get up while having trouble maintaining his balance.

Athletic trainer Jason Serbus and Anthony Mantha helped Fehervary off the ice.

With Fehervary out, Rasmus Sandin is helping to fill the void on the top-pairing left side.

In 46 games this season, Fehervary has two goals and 10 assists.

It's a tough break for Washington, who just got Sonny Milano back from injury after two months. Fehervary plays a key role for D.C., skating on the top pairing and logging a lot of ice time while killing penalties, laying the body and blocking a lot of shots.
