The 30-year-old had a stellar showing with 58 points in 60 games for Hershey this season.

The Washington Capitals are getting some business done ahead of what's likely to be a change-filled offseason, and over the weekend, they extended one of their top AHL performers in Michael Sgarbossa.

Washington inked Sgarbossa to a two-year, two-way extension, which pays $750,000 at the NHL level and $525,000 at the AHL level.

The 30-year-old had a stellar year with the Hershey Bears this season, picking up 21 goals and 37 assists for 58 points in 60 games. He has carried that strong play over into the playoffs and has three points in four games so far.

Though he didn't play in any NHL games this year, Sgarbossa impressed last season in a 10-game stint up with the big club. He picked up four points and seven hits while serving as a solid two-way presence and winning 56.9 percent of his face-offs.

Sgarbossa has been with the Capitals organization since 2018. He went undrafted after being passed over in the 2010 NHL Draft and signed a deal with the San Jose Sharks as a free agent. His pro career officially began with the Colorado Avalanche after the Sharks traded his rights there.

In addition to Washington and Colorado, Sgarbossa also played in the Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers and Winnipeg Jets organizations.

Overall, the 6-0, 187-pound pivot has shown that he is a strong playmaker and goal-scorer who can play in all situations, provide versatility and generate scoring chances. He is a good depth option to have, and he could also turn heads come training camp with spots possibly up for grabs depending on the NHL Draft Lottery, free agency and trade landscape this offseason.
