WASHINGTON — As the offseason drags on, it's time for The Hockey News' annual Washington Capitals offseason fan poll.
The Capitals had a season to remember, headlined by Alex Ovechkin overtaking Wayne Gretzky as the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer while Washington also managed the best record in the Eastern Conference under coach Spencer Carbery, who earned a nomination for the Jack Adams Award.
There's a lot that went into the Capitals' success, inclduing breakout seasons for Connor McMichael and Aliaksei Protas, career years for Tom Wilson and Pierre-Luc Dubois, the addition of Logan Thompson, Jakob Chychrun and more pieces and a team-leading point-per-game campaign from Dylan Strome, among other things.
While the regular season was an impressive one, Washington ran out of gas in the playoffs and ultimately fell in the second round to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Recap the season and the future, including areas of concern to address, where the team needs to add pieces, who the unsung hero was and more.
Fill out the poll here, and we'll post the results this coming week.
