It looks like the Washington Capitals will have a new home after all, as the team is expected to officially announce its plan to move to Virginia from Washington, D.C.
Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Monuenntal Sports & Entertainment owner Ted Leonsis will attend an event on Wednesday to announce the plans for a new multi-sport complex in Potomac Yard, an Alexandria neighborhood.
The Capitals will be joined by the NBA’s Washington Wizards.
Virginia lawmakers approved the proposal after a meeting on Monday.
The relocation comes after years of relocation discussions and requests for renovations at Capital One Arena.
Capital One Arena, formerly known as Verizon Center and MCI center, has been home to the Capitals since 1997. Before that, Washington had played in Landover, Maryland.
