The deal comes hours after Miroshnichenko and Avangard Omsk terminated their contract.

ARLINGTON, V.A. -- Ivan Miroshnichenko is officially in the mix for the Washington Capitals.

Washington signed the 19-year-old forward to a three-year entry-level contract on Monday,which pays $855,000 per year at the NHL level and $82,500 at the AHL level.

The deal comes hours after the KHL's Avangard Omsk announced that they've agreed to terminate Miroshnichenko's contract, which was supposed to end in 2024.

"The forward wants to achieve his dream this year; we won't stay in his way, even though I believe this decision is premature," general manager Anton Kuryanov said in the press release, adding, "He managed to perform. real sports feat... he has made his decision and we have kept our word. We wish Ivan good luck and good health."

Miroshnichenko was taken 20th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. He was pegged as a top-10 talent and ranked third among European wingers, but dropped in the first round due to his diagnosis and battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He has been in remission since June and, after receiving medical clearance, made his season debut with Avangard's MHL affiliate. He then made his KHL debut in December.

He spent the majority of his year up with the KHL club, where he had three goals and an assist. He also spent 12 games with Omskie Yastreby, where he recorded 10 goals and four assists, and additionally had three assists in four VHL games with Omskie Krylia.

Miroshnichenko, who did not participate in development camp or training camp last season due to his battle with cancer, will be on the ice in one way or another for the organization this coming season.
