The Washington Capitals started the offseason earlier than usual, but the team is still spending time together with the summer underway and changes coming.
For Tom Wilson and Charlie Lindgren, the downtime provided an opportunity to give back to the D.C. community as they made their way to Wolf Trap Animal Rescue on Saturday.
Wilson and Lindgren, along with their wives Taylor and Mikkayla and others, helped with the intake of over 70 animals for the local rescue.
The Capitals have worked with WTAR for years, as the two have joined forces for the team's annual Canine Calendar and other events, and the Wilsons have volunteered there over the years.
Wolf Trap Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit program that "operates to facilitate means of transport, foster and adoption of rescued pets" and rescues animals "who are at risk of neglect, homelessness and euthanasia from shelters and communities in states of the South."

Wilson and Lindgren both have rescue dogs. Wilson's dog, Halle, came from WTAR. Lindgren's dog, Riley, came from Oklahoma during the pandemic.
Also this week, Washington's 2022-23 coaching staff got together one final time while saying goodbye to head coach Peter Laviolette and assistant coaches Blaine Forsythe and Kevin McCarthy, who agreed to part ways with the team.
