The Capitals welcomed back Lars Eller as he made his return with the Penguins.

WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals paid tribute to one of their Stanley Cup heroes on Friday, as Lars Eller returned to Capital One Arena with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

At the first media timeout, Washington honored Eller with a video tribute on the jumbotron, which featured his first Capitals goal, Game 6 OT winner over the Columbus Blue Jackets and, most importantly, his Game 5 game-winner against the Vegas Golden Knights that clinched the Stanley Cup for the club in 2018.

Eller was emotional as he watched the tribute and saluted the crowd, which welcomed him back with a standing ovation. His former teammates also gave stick taps.

The Dane is back in D.C. for the first time since his trade to the Colorado Avalanche back in February as part of the pre-trade-deadline sell-off.

Here's the full tribute:

Eller was visibly emotional as he looked up to the big screen and relived his memories with the team. He was with the Capitals for seven years after being acquired in 2016.

Through 448 games in the District, Eller posted 87 goals and 121 assists for 208 points.
