The Capitals own five picks in the 2023 NHL Draft and will miss out on two rounds due to trades.

The Washington Capitals will be drafting in the top 10 for the first time since 2007, as they're pegged to make a selection at eighth overall. There will be several highly-touted names left in what's a deep first round.

Beyond that, Washington holds four more picks. Here's where the team will draft.

ROUND 1 OF THE 2023 NHL DRAFT: 1 Pick

Washington owns just the eighth overall pick in the first round. The later draft pick the Capitals had acquired from the Boston Bruins as part of the Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway trade was flipped to the Toronto Maple Leafs, along with Erik Gustafsson, in order to acquire Rasmus Sandin. Toronto will pick 28th overall.

Last year's first-rounder was forward Ivan Miroshnichenko (No. 20).

ROUND 2 OF THE 2023 NHL DRAFT: 1 Pick

In the second round, Washington will select 40th overall. The team had another second-round pick as part of the Brenden Dillon trade with the Winnipeg Jets, but that was traded to the Seattle Kraken in to re-acquire Vitek Vanecek after he was taken in the expansion draft.

Last year's second-rounder was defenseman Ryan Chesley (No. 72).

ROUND 3 OF THE 2023 NHL DRAFT: No Picks

The Capitals lost their third-round pick to the Arizona Coyotes in the trade for Johan Larsson at the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline. The Coyotes will pick 72nd overall. D.C. had two third-round picks last year and took forwards Alexander Suzdalev (No. 70) and Ludwig Persson (No. 84).

ROUND 5 OF THE 2023 NHL DRAFT: 1 Pick

The Capitals also hold the 136th overall pick in the fifth round. Last season's fifth-rounder was forward Jake Karabela (No. 149)
