The Capitals have some more lineup questions that need answering going into a big game in Edmonton.
The Washington Capitals enter another vital game on the biggest road trip of the season and will have their hands full as they take on Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. All the while, the lineup is up in the air amid several injury questions.
Nic Dowd and Martin Fehervary, who have been out for the last few weeks with respective upper and lower-body injuries, are tending in the right direction and could be back in the mix against the Oilers, head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters in Edmonton. Both have been activated off the injured reserve.
"We'll make sure everything is good this afternoon and then make a decision tonight, but we've got some guys potentially coming back in the lineup tonight," Carbery said.
Tom Wilson is also a game-time decision, as he is dealing with a day-to-day upper-body injury that held him out on Monday against the Winnipeg Jets.
"Just making sure that he's completely comfortable injury-wise and able to suit up," Carbery added.
Given the injuries, it's unclear how the forward lines and defensive pairings will look going into Wednesday's showdown, though it's hard to imagine Hendrix Lapierre, who is among the NHL's top rookies since his latest call-up to close out the month of February, drawing out of the mix.
Meanwhile, Darcy Kuemper will get the start after Charlie Lindgren played the last six games for D.C. Kuemper has an impressive all-time record against Pacific Division opponents, going 65-28-17 with a .928 save percentage, 13 shutouts and 2.22 GAA in 117 games.
Wednesday is a critical game for the Capitals, who sit three points behind the New York Islanders for the second Wild Card spot in the East and are seven points behind the Philadelphia Flyers for third in the Metropolitan Division with games in hand."
Puck drop is at 10 p.m. ET.
