The Washington Capitals saw signee Ethen Frank step up once again, as he and the Hershey Bears were able to come together for a huge Game 4 win to even up the Calder Cup Finals against the Coachella Valley Thunderbirds.
Frank scored the game-winning goal while Mike Vecchione struck twice and added an assist en route to a 3-2 victory.
Joe Snively also recorded his second point in as many games with an assist, while Henrik Borgstrom also picked up his third helper of the postseason. Mason Morelli and Logan Day also got on the scoresheet.
Hunter Shepard made 19 saves on 21 shots en route to the victory over Shane Wright and the Firebirds.
Hershey opened the scoring with Vecchione striking just 4:27 minutes in, but Austin Poganski would even the score to make it a 1-1 game after the first. In the second, Vecchione gave his team the lead, and then shortly after, Frank went bardown for his second goal of the postseason and second in as many games.
This postseason has been one of the biggest challenges of Frank's career, as the AHL rookie with a standout regular season went without a goal in 11 games to open the playoffs. His lack of production led to a series of healthy scratches, but now, he's busted out with two goals in two games.
Frank's stellar performance this season led to an NHL contract with the Capitals, so getting some confidence back and coming in clutch at this point in time is a promising sign as he prepares to carry momentum from this year into the offseason and make noise come training camp in September.
Game 5 will be on Saturday at Giant Center before both teams had back to Southern California for Game 6.
