Geoff Burke - USA TODAY Sports - Report: Borgstrom Moving On From Capitals Organization To Play In Swedish League

The Washington Capitals are reportedly saying goodbye to Henrik Borgstrom, as the Finn appears to be headed overseas to continue his hockey career.

Per Expressen, Borgstrom will join the SHL's HV71 after spending a year in the Capitals organization.

The 25-year-old signed a one-year, two-way deal with Washington last offseason following his run ith the Chicago Blackhawks. Though he made it to the final days of training camp in D.C., he didn't win a roster spot and spent all but one game this season with the AHL's Hershey Bears.

In 55 games with Hershey, Borgstrom racked up eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points, as well as a plus-minus rating of minus-6. He was scratched to open the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs with the team having an impressive amount of depth.

Borgstrom reportedly had interest in playing in the Swiss League and had interest, but opted for the SHL. He is expected to compete for the role of HV71's number one center.
