ARLINGTON, V.A. – The Washington Capitals will have to wait and see if captain Alex Ovechkin will be in the lineup against the Seattle Kraken, as he missed Wednesday's practice and will be re-evaluated after Thursday's optional morning skate.
Ovechkin went on the ice for light skills work ahead of practice, but left the surface before things officially got underway. He did not take the ice for the ASHA clinic he hosted.
The 38-year-old was banged up at the end of Friday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes when he got the brunt of a collision with captain Jordan Staal and appeared to injure his leg. He took a maintenance day on Saturday as a result and was a game-time decision on Sunday, but he still played.
Head coach Spencer Carbery said that Ovechkin was "nicked up" after that game, leading to another maintenance day on Tuesday and a missed practice on Wednesday. Ovechkin has not missed a game this season.
On the bright side, T.J. Oshie is expected to return after missing the last three weeks with an upper-body injury, and Tom Wilson was also a full participant in practice and is expected to play after being listed as day-to-day with an apparent broken nose he suffered against the Los Angeles Kings. He was in a full face shield, though, to protect the injury as it heals.
Charlie Lindgren has also officially been activated from the injured reserve, but it's unclear whether he'll start against the Kraken or back up Darcy Kuemper. He has not played since suffering an injury in the opening minutes of a 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Dec. 29.
In other injury news, Sonny Milano remained in a non-contact jersey on Wednesday, though he's expected to upgrade to contact soon. However, it doesn't appear likely that he will be in against Seattle, which also marks his "Chia Milano" giveaway night.
Rasmus Sandin, who is day-to-day with an upper-body injury after missing two games due to illness, did not skate and will be out against the Kraken as well.
